Let me just start off this article by letting you know that I am petrified of needles. Petrified. Beyond petrified – so working myself up to do something like Microblading or in this case, Microneedling takes some doing.

The beautiful ladies Ash and Jess from Meraki Aesthetics Studio in Morningside (who keep me looking fresh as a daisy for every event – even if I am sleep deprived) have done wonders for my skin in the last year that I have worked with them – and Ash is so talented and soothing that I gave in and agreed to test drive a Microneedling experience.

It’s uncomfortable, let me start off with saying that – however, my skin is incredibly sensitive, so I was quite uncomfortable, but most would feel it as an uncomfortable prickling feeling at most. It also makes a weird scratching sound.

How it works is basically the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purposes of rejuvenation, and most commonly used is a derma roller – which is made up of micro-fine needles that range in diameter from 0.5 and 2.5 millimetres. The punctures are more like pin-pricks that enter only surface-level deep and leave a redness to the skin.

Microneedling can be done every 4 to 6 weeks and optimum results are seen between 3 to 6 sessions. Microneedling is well known for treating and improving a variety of skin conditions like acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues.

I was a bit red and blotchy afterwards but that dies down quite soon, and now while writing this article after 10 days, I can certainly see new plumpness and freshness in my skin – despite working quite crazy hours at the moment.

Would I go again – sure, although with my low pain threshold I am not sure if I would be able to tolerate a higher setting on the machine though – as there are several levels of needle penetration.

That said as a 4 times a year supplement to your skincare routine, it’s a definite thumbs up from me.

The ladies at Meraki Aesthetics studio are angels, kind and gentle and I really feel right at home here every time I visit. Plus they also do nails, waxing, tanning, slimming and loads more – just saying. If you quote my code HH1 or mention my name when you book – you will get 10% off ANY treatment 🙂

Dont’s say I don’t look out for my faves!
