I spent an amazing morning this week past Thursday (feeling very fashionable might I add), as International Chef Matt Manning and Siemens Home Appliances took a few of us ladies on an exclusive gastronomic adventure at the annual Hats and Heels breakfast hosted by the BMW SA Open Championship and the City of Ekurhuleni at Glendower Golf Club.

The Hats and Heels breakfast is hosted annually to create awareness around golf heavyweight Ernie Els and his wife, Liezl’s foundation. The Els for Autism Charitable Foundation was established in 2009 with the primary aim of establishing the Ernie Els Centre for Autism in South Africa. Liezl shared their personal passion to empower and grow awareness around autism, an illness that has changed her and Ernie’s lives forever when they discovered that their son, Ben was diagnosed years ago.

Former Miss South Africa, Jo-Ann Strauss welcomed us all (bedecked in hats and heels) to the beautiful day followed by a live cooking demonstration courtesy of Siemens Home Appliances with the charming chef, Matt Manning.

“The BMW SA Open Championship is one of the highlight events on the international golf circuit as it is the largest golfing event in South Africa and the second oldest golf championship in the world, it only makes sense that Siemens Home Appliances and BMW should partner at such an event as both brands believe in displaying power, precision and efficiency in their own industries and using this alignment to support such a worthy cause”, said Lisa Greenwood, Brand Manager for Siemens Home Appliances in South Africa.

The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by Ernie and Liezl Els to focus on the issue of autism, just a few years after discovering that their son Ben was profoundly impacted by the disorder, which affects 1 in 68 individuals.

Els for Autism thus aims to provide families across the globe with best practice interventions and support. In early January 2011, Ernie and Liezl Els embarked on a goal to create a service that would allow lower-resourced families of children on the spectrum in South Africa with free access to effective treatment.
