Stellenbosch has always held a certain appeal and old-world charm, and I was delighted that I got to recently spend some time in this beautiful part of the world as part of my #HeatherVisitsTheCape trip that I recently took.
We were lucky enough to spend the night at the beautifully renovated and restored Evergreen Manor and Spa, which is located in the heart of the town – and is like a little slice of old-world charm through and through.
Owner Riel Meynhardt purchased the property several years ago and spent time refurbishing and restoring the old house back to its former glory after it had fallen into disrepair. The property dates back to 1903 and many of the original design elements remain, from the wooden floors to the interior fireplaces and wooden panelling.
The property has a variety of rooms on offer – from classic to luxury and premier – and even a honeymoon suite with a huge big bath in the room – for those especially romantic occasions! Our upstairs room overlooked the pool and was beautifully shaded from the heat of the day.
Our room was fully equipped with a minibar and relaxing lounge area, large bathroom with a bath and a shower and double basins.
The staff at Evergreen are friendly and helpful, and our check-in was hassle-free. After a dip in the pool and refreshing beverage, we set out to explore the town a bit more.
One of the coolest things about Evergreen is that you can easily walk into town for the day, no need to drive and hassle for parking, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the stores and restaurants, plus there is a stunning botanical garden at the end of the road, well worth a visit (the succulent and bonsai exhibits were my favourites) and well worth a pop in, a walk around and a cup of tea and a tasty slice of cake at the Katjiepiering restaurant on-site afterwards.
The morning breakfast offering at Evergreen is plentiful and filling, you can help your self from the self-service cereals and fruit offering, fresh-baked pastries and bread, and order your warm goodies from your waitress. We created our own omelettes – great to be able to select the fillings that you want and enjoy a fresh cup of filter coffee whilst enjoying the beautiful garden and pool area.
Evergreen Manor forms part of the Cape Country Routes collection, which is a leading group of owner-operated and managed accommodation and activity establishments – more than 20 privately owned hotels, lodges and guest houses – located on the scenic and historic routes in the Western and Eastern Cape. All carefully selected for their character, charm and romance, they offer the best accommodation and activity options to suit every taste and budget.
