The Maslow, the urban sanctuary in the heart of Sandton, will be staging another of its famous feasts on Christmas day. With all the warmth, grace and sophistication for which the hotel has become known, this year’s Christmas Lunch is a family-style affair and features a sumptuous buffet of traditional favourites with a cosmopolitan edge.
The feast starts with a traditional eggnog welcome drink followed by a colourful array of canapés and homemade bread. The selection of innovative salads includes amongst others Roquefort and pear salad with caramelised walnuts; roasted butternut with cracked pumpkin and dukkah Prawn Nicoise, and prawn and chorizo salad farfalle with dill and lime mayonnaise.
For mains, there is a choice of beautifully prepared vegetable dishes and succulent meats including honey glazed gammon with thyme apple sauce; turkey with Christmas stuffing and mushroom veloute; slow-roasted beef sirloin with onion gravy and Yorkshire pudding, and grilled line fish with confit shallot, lemon segments and parsley; crispy pork belly with caramelized apple gravy, and lamb rogan josh.
Vegetarians have a choice of vegetable dishes as well as halloumi ravioli with smoked paprika concasse.
The delicious journey culminates with a selection of indulgent desserts such as key lime pie; carrot cake with caramelised pecan nuts; pear tart with vanilla bean Chantilly crème; tiramisu; the Grinch’s pistachio opera chocolate brownie cheesecake with raspberries, and Turkish delight, rosewater and lime chocolate tart.
“Guests will be received and served in a warm, magical setting. While savouring a spectacular feast, they will be entertained by songstress Lindi and a saxophonist. Little ones will get to meet Father Christmas and have their faces painted. Christmas day at The Maslow is all about family,” says Executive Chef Hector Mnyayiza.
