Calling all Jozi food enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting new addition come September when The Peech Hotel opens the doors to its new dining experience, Basalt.
Frederico Dias, known to all as Freddie, has been appointed as Head Chef and is well known in South Africa’s fine chef and Press circles for his years spent as Head Chef of Cape Town’s Pot Luck Club under the mentorship of the one and only Chef Luke Dale Roberts.
In addition to the renovation of the original guest-only bistro dining space, Basalt is a completely new and extra offering providing a stylish and refined dining experience for both Peech residents and the city’s gourmet flock. Chef Freddie will be at the helm of both restaurants.
Freddie is currently adding the final touches to the Basalt menu, which he describes as “contemporary global cuisine”. All he will divulge now is that diners can expect carefully selected seasonal produce, influenced by his cooking in some of the world’s finest restaurants, while his Portuguese roots and current love of Asian and Mexican flavours will also filter through. In his words, “really amazing food” is coming to Joburg!
Basalt will be open for dinner five nights a week (Tues-Sat). Basalt opens at the start of September with table reservations opening on-line on Friday 30th August.
