One crisp Saturday morning found a bunch of media on a bus bound for the Pilanesberg. It was early (read grumpy in my books) and dark and we were about to embark on an adventure to the Pilanesberg to check out some awesome game at the Pilanesberg National Park (which I must say has always been one of the best game viewing excursions every time I go I am just blown away.)

The van that collected us was sparkling clean, and once the heaters were on full blast and the sun appeared on the horizon we all perked up a bit! Our driver, named Sugar, was quite talkative and although I was seated at the back of the bus I heard much laughter emanating from the front section of the shuttle. An added bonus is the fact that all shuttles are fully equipped with Free Wi-Fi, allowing you to load your photos to Facebook, filter for the ‘Gram and catch up on your emails and messages between your departure point and your destination.

The trip to Pilanesberg takes about 3 hours and we stopped halfway at the Total garage for a refresh and much-needed bathroom break, and of course some selfies, before continuing on to Pilanesberg.

We had an incredible game drive, as always, in Pilanesberg and we go to not only see some Big 5 game really close up, buts spent some time tracking a mating Cheetah couple which was a once in a lifetime experience, and also almost got charged by a young elephant bull, luckily our ranger was really on the ball!!

We also stopped for a light lunch overlooking the watering hole at The Pilanesberg Centre – I had a chicken wrap and fries and there were a few other options as well including burgers, boerie rolls and the like – great to keep that energy up for the afternoon leg of the game viewing drive. PS – May I suggest taking very warm clothing, the breeze on the back of those trucks can get mighty frosty, especially when you are doing breakneck speed to get to the next game site before the game themselves, ha ha!
