Not long to go until the highly anticipated American Express Winter Sculpture Fair at Nirox Sculpture Park opens its doors on Mother’s Day weekend of 11th and 12th May 2019, and for the second year, American Express will be the headline sponsor of the event.
The relationship with the Winter Sculpture Fair is one that American Express sees as a totally natural fit and a platform that perfectly demonstrates the Powerful Backing that they are renowned for. Long known as a symbol for travel, hospitality, amazing food and a life well lived, with American Express you have a partner that gives you a platform to grow and to thrive.
There will be lots to experience and partake in, and this year the fair is set to perfectly marry three key lifestyle areas – food, wine and sculpture in to a weekend of not only aesthetic beauty and endless activities for the kids, but also culinary delights paired with the best Franschhoek Valley wines for the oenophiles amongst us.
Amex Cardmembers are set to enjoy some very exclusive perks, including a fixed discounted ticket price, priority queuing and exclusive daily tours.
One of these exclusive experiences is the Gourmet Kitchen where two American Express Dining award-winning chefs will be cooking up a storm and creating mouth-watering dishes during their live demonstrations exclusive to Amex Cardmembers. Chef Daniela Gutstadt from The Culinary Table will be showcasing on Saturday and Chef Christiaan Campbell from The Werf Restaurant in Franschhoek on Sunday.
The ongoing relationship between American Express and it’s Dining Award winners is an important one – and the team at American Express are delighted to continue to foster this relationship by including these winners as key participants in this year’s Winter Sculpture Fair.
Both Daniela and Christiaan are well known for creating tasty culinary delights, using fresh ingredients from their gardens and farms, as well as being passionate about using things the way that nature intended, full of flavour and fresh from the earth.
Chef Daniela has been creating a new menu every week for the last 6 years at the restaurant, and this is a great testament as to how she works with produce that is in season, be it meat or fresh produce – flexibility is key. The vegetable garden at The Culinary Table is well known, and Chef Daniela truly believes that as a chef the outcome of the food one creates is defined by the ingredients used.
Says Chef Daniela ‘That is the starting point: good ingredients, don’t compromise, and the rest comes naturally. The garden is a fundamental part of what makes The Culinary Table unique, so I am going to do my best to bring those elements forward and share them in my approach and recipes in the Gourmet Kitchen.’
Executive Chef at The Werf Restaurant, Chef Christiaan is looking forward to showcasing his award-winning Boschendal Black Angus pasture-raised beef to visitors, as well as introducing them to the organic mixed grain flour that they use in their flatbreads and flavours of foraged wild mushrooms direct from the farm.
Christiaan has created a simple yet tasty dish that uses fresh ingredients with a focus on flavour and texture. He believes very strongly in sustainability and animal welfare and works closely with the Boschendal farm managers, gardeners and butchers to ensure a steady supply of naturally produced meat, herbs and vegetables that are grown totally naturally and are free from additives and other
‘I truly believe that we can eat our way to a healthier planet one mouthful at a time’ says Chef Christiaan.
