First lady of comedy, Tumi Morake and the original ‘CaveWoman’, Vanessa Frost team up again for the Naledi-nominated Tease! at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square from the 27th February to 21st March.

Tease! premiered at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown followed by a sold-out run at the Market Theatre in 2016.

Eva and Neo, best friends and partners in a suburban hair salon reach crossroads in their personal lives. Stumbling into an adult toy shop one night, they make some acquisitions and this inspires an idea…

With a healthy dose of self-deprecating humour and a whole lot of heart, versatile Tumi and Vanessa play many familiar characters including the elderly Muslim and Jewish women who return weekly to have their hair set…and sample new toys!

Vanessa says the meeting of minds in the process was synchronous and that extensive research went into the writing of the script. They found themselves exploring heartfelt and hard truths in order to present a potent message about female sexuality and desire.

“It’s been about finding the comedy in each of these moments while exploring the moments that don’t require comedy,” she says. “It’s about answering the question we all quietly worry about – am I normal?”

Director, Jose Domingos says Tease! is a journey of self-discovery. “The themes are universal which means that I think there’s something in it for everyone.”

Written by Jose Domingos, Vanessa Frost and Tumi Morake, Tease! opens with a preview at Sandton’s Auto & General Theatre on the Square on 27th February and runs until the 21st March.
