Yesterday I headed through to Jamie’s Italian in Melrose Arch to go and check out their new menu and I must say, I am excited! Breaking the mould for a Jamie’s restaurant globally, our local has developed dishes that showcase the South African flavours truly unique to our versatile culture.
There are 16 delicious new dishes on offer, five of which have been created locally with only the freshest South African ingredients – classic Italian tastes made lekker!
Expect to be wowed by the…
• Seafood bucatini – a seafood pasta using locally sourced and sustainable seafood such as mussels and calamari and served with the most delicious and fresh bucatini pasta
• Buttermilk-fried chicken burger – a battered buttermilk chicken breast deep fried and served in a brioche bun with Calabrian chilli mayonnaise, fontal cheese, tomato and rocket – served with fries.
• Spicy chilli beef pizza – this was my fave BTW! Chilli-infused free-range meatballs, flash-pickled onions and fresh chilli on a crushed tomato sauce base with our hand-stretched pizza dough
Like all the dishes served at Jamie’s Italian, each new menu item is freshly made on the premises every day and all ingredients have been lovingly sourced locally according to Jamie’s Italian’s food ethos – with a focus on fresh ingredients, animal welfare and sustainability.
Guests can look forward to big flavours, old classics, and amazing new and healthy ingredient twists. Some of the other new menu dishes include Slow-cooked lamb shank – brazed until almost off the bone, served on olive oil-infused mashed potato with a rich lamb gravy and salsa verde – and a mouth-watering Oxtail lasagna – herby 12-hour oxtail ragù layered with homemade pasta, Béchamel, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
“This menu is close to our heart and has taken a very long time to develop to perfection to suit the taste requirements of our customers. We are very excited to be able to launch our Jamie’s Italian winter menu that’ll meet every ‘hearty food’ expectation,” says Eugene Kriel, restaurant manager of Jamie’s Italian South Africa.
