I think Bonang is the perfect fit for The Miss South Africa brand, and was of course super excited to hear that she will be hosting the Miss South Africa pageant. This year marks the 60th anniversary with the Diamond Jubilee spectacular set to take place on Sunday 27th May at Sun International’s new flagship venue, the Sun Arena at Times Square Casino, Pretoria.

The 60th Diamond Jubilee event, which will be televised live and simulcast on M-Net and Mzansi Magic, sees 12 of the country’s most beautiful and accomplished women compete to take the crown and follow in the footsteps of Miss South Africa 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who went on to be crowned Miss Universe, and her successor, Adè van Heerden.

Matheba, or Queen B as she is affectionately known is one of the country’s leading media personalities and style icons and has a long association with Miss South Africa and was part of the judging panel in 2014 which officially crowned Rolene Strauss, who later went on to be crowned Miss World.

The trendsetting TV and radio star, author and philanthropist says she is delighted to be hosting the 2018 event.

“Having grown up watching the Miss South Africa pageant, I feel very honoured to be part of this two-hour spectacular in a year in which this South African institution celebrates a huge milestone anniversary,” says Bonang, who returned to South Africa from London this week where she was MC at the prestigious Global Gift Foundation fund-raiser celebrating Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday.

The Top 12 finalists competing for the crown will be revealed on May 3. The winner will take home more than R3 million in a bouquet of prizes that makes the competition one of the richest pageants in the world.

Says Gareth Flusk from Sun International on behalf of the Miss South Africa Organisation: “We are working hard to ensure that the diamond jubilee will be a pageant to remember and are thrilled that Bonang is once again part of the team.”

Adds Suzette van der Merwe, Executive: Commercial Communications for headline sponsor Cell C: “We are delighted to have our Cell C ambassador as the host for Miss South Africa 2018. Bonang launched her latest app ‘Bonang by Cell C’ last year and she also features in many of our brand campaigns. Not only is she talented and dynamic but she will be a huge drawcard.”
