Oh no! I thought my nails would not survive this, and I think I may be right, as the very first elimination took place on the Tropika Island Of Treasure on SABC 3 last night! After receiving the lowest number of points throughout the first round of challenges, 5FM presenter Tumi Voster and Mark-Anthony Bingham were booted off the island.

Naturally, the duo is gutted about being the first to leave the island and their bubbly personalities are sure to be missed. The teams continue to battle it out for a share of that smoooth R1 million. However, with a variety of Slenda Twists on the way, the next few episodes promise to be entertaining…stay tuned!

Q&A With Tumi Voster & Mark-Anthony Bingham Shortly After Being Eliminated…

What surprised you most about yourself being on TIOT and the island?

Tumi Voster: If you told me five years ago that I would be on a reality show, I would’ve probably not believed you. I learned that I can do whatever I set my mind to doing. I learned to be more open to new and exciting experiences! Everything that happened on that island was a surprise every single day but I was prepared and ready every single day to face all the challenges. I am happy that I got to show my fans or followers a different side of me they’ve never seen before as I am quite a private person.

Mark-Anthony Bingham: What I learned the most was that I was able to allow a female to lead as I’m always the dominant one, and I learned to listen – not just rush in to situations.

Where do you think you could have improved?

Tumi Voster: I am a person who lives life at her own pace and is always focused on what I am doing and don’t look at other people as competition, but I soon realised how competitive everyone became on the island. So perhaps I needed to unleash some competitiveness in me.

Mark-Anthony Bingham: I could have improved by listening to my instincts and taking the lead also by making my voice heard in challenges with my partner as there was a lack of communication between us during challenges.

What was the best thing about being teamed up with your partner? And who did you think your biggest competitor was?

Tumi Voster: Mark was very kind and driven, which were great traits! Biggest competition I would say were: Sbahle, Brendan and Melinda.

Mark-Anthony Bingham: Tumi was so patient and a great team mate! I don’t really think there was a threat as each team had strong and weak points, and others just had luck on their side.

Why should people continue to watch TIOT8 for the remainder of the season?

Tumi Voster: People should continue to watch because of all the Slenda Twists which has kept everyone on their feet, and the competition gets real as everyone fights for that R1 million prize.

Mark-Anthony Bingham: It really does get smooother and spicier! And not to forget the awesome host that is Katlego who makes every episode entertaining.

What advice do you wish someone told you before the show?

Tumi Voster: I don’t think any advice can prepare you for this type of show. I believe you just need to be open minded and be prepared for anything. Most importantly, create unforgettable experiences, learn something new about yourself through the entire experience, and make new friends!

Mark-Anthony Bingham: I wish someone had told me to take lots and lots of sunscreen – competing in the challenges was tough but the sun in the Maldives took the cake!
