Romance and champagne? Calling all you love birds out there – make sure you check out this epic offering from The Maslow Hotel in Sandton, who are aiming to make Valentine’s Day a simply sumptuous and bubbly experience this year.

An extraordinary menu and a sophisticated setting themed by the world’s finest champagne will combine at the hotel’s Lacuna Bistro overlooking The Maslow’s tranquil oasis garden on February the 14th. Think Moët & Chandon, oysters and prawns, lamb Valentine and an indulgent dessert platter to share. YUM!!!

Oozing romance, the menu begins with a giddy Amuse Bouche comprising Knysna oysters in whiskey sours, laced with Jack Daniels Old No.7.

What follows is a delightful plate of pan fried prawns in garlic and lime butter with deep risotto balls, lashings of parmesan and smoked tomato concasse. Before the main course comes a delicious homemade soup of mushroom tortellini, parmesan crème and chicken boudin, smothered in a roasted chicken broth.

For mains there is a choice between lamb Valentine marinated with yoghurt and cumin, or paupiette of sole with fennel mousse and prawn wonton. And, the taste meander doesn’t end there. Two more courses follow; a cheese board of Karoo crumble with watermelon preserve and cape seed loaf and then a decadent dessert plate featuring homemade crème anglaise with 70% dark chocolate ganache; malva squares laced with marmalade, strawberries, meringues, ginger biscuit fingers, caramelized banana with raspberries and salty pretzels. The romantic feast culminates with Turkish delight and chocolate truffles.

For a more laidback Valentine’s experience, couples can venture to The Maslow on Sunday, 18 February when the lush lawns and gardens will provide the backdrop to a Veuve Clicquot-inspired picnic under African skies.

The gourmet picnic menu burgeons with personality, with crispy jalapeno poppers stuffed with feta; crispy chicken wings fried in buttermilk; a Cape cheese board; mouthwatering roast chicken and butternut salad, and blueberry cheese cake jars topped with crispy honey comb amongst the treats to share.

According to The Maslow’s PR and Marketing Manager, Sibongile Morale, couples can make a night of Valentine’s Day by staying over in style. The Valentine’s package includes a romantic turn down, complimentary bubbly paired with Turkish delight truffles and strawberries in the room. The package is R 2 245 per couple on Valentine’s Day but is also available throughout the month of love for R 1 885 per room.

Booking is essential for all of these experiences. The cost per head for the Moët & Chandon themed dinner on 14 February is R440 and the Veuve Clicquot-inspired picnic on 18 February is R750 per couple.
