It’s that time of year again folks – and knowing my hectic schedule I will be planning many things in advance, especially meet ups with friends and family before Joburg turns in to it’s proverbial ghost town over December.
Septimo Italian Market & Restaurant, my fave discovery on Nelson Mandela Square – and other people too (not only is the food amazing, but I am obsessed with the decor AND they serve Aperol!!) have designed three festive menus that will suit all tastes and budgets.
Available for groups of eight or more, and coming into effect from Wednesday, November 15 through to Saturday, December 30, the three menus range from R290 per person to R390 per person.
The price includes a complimentary Peppermint Prosecco as well as a declicious homemade dessert from Patachou Patisserie for every diner in the party.
The three options are:
The La Famiglia Menu
Hand-crafted appetiser boards as well as pastas and pizzas served family style. The pizzas – from the wood fire oven – have thin crusts and come with a variety of toppings, from Margarita with fresh tomato, mozzarella and basil to Prostitutto with pancetta, fig and wild rocket. R290 pp.
The Nostalgia Menu
Scrumptious family recipe dishes such as homemade ravioli with Napoli sauce, ricotta lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs, US-style. R345 pp.
The Signature Menu
Sustainable and organic selections from the signature menu, such as pan-seared sea bass, wood-fired whole baby chicken and a 350g, 45-day, dry-aged, grass-fed New York strip (sirloin) with a coffee and black pepper rub which is served with a jus and thrice-fried parmesan and black pepper chips. R390 pp.
Septimo Italian Market & Restaurant is the brainchild of Paul Lycos, a third-generation restaurateur, whose family has owned eateries in both France and the US. Some of the dishes on the menu are those from Lycos’ childhood , and which he describes as “Italian American cuisine that you would find in any restaurant in Little Italy in New York or South Street in Philadelphia.”
The restaurant has a compact but interesting wine list with a few varietals available in 250ml and 500ml carafes. There is also a full bar with seven signature cocktails all waiting to be tried.
Septimo is the perfect venue for that festive function – be it an intimate company lunch or dinner or just a group of friends and families wanting to share a fabulous meal together to celebrate the Christmas holidays.
