This promises to to be a great initiative, and if you are about giving back – then do make sure you get involved with the Twitter Blanket Drive!
The Twitter Blanket Drive was started in 2010 with a single tweet by Melanie Minnaar commenting on how the winter cold could be changed if each person gave another a blanket. The Twitter community responded, and this annual event have been run, completely by volunteers, since.
Supporters of the Twitter Blanket Drive have made a public appeal for individuals, small companies and corporates, to donate blankets (old or new).
Blankets may be dropped off at the offices of Radio Today in Parkwood, as well as the Live Arts Little Theatre in Boksburg. Volunteers will collect in all areas, for those not able to attend our handover event.
This year the Twitter Blanket Drive handover will take place at the Live Arts Little Theatre, located within the Terminal Lifestyle Centre, on the corner of Trichardt Road and Dr Vosloo Drive in Bartlett, Boksburg.
The event is scheduled for 25 May 2017 at 19h00.
Soup and bread have been donated by a local church, AGS Farrarmere, with the assistance of BenHale Academy providing volunteers on the night as well as donations.
Jozi Twitter Blanket Drive decided to partner with Outreach Unlimited who will assist with the distribution of the collected blankets. Individuals are welcome to take part in the outreach visits as we encourage community involvement, and drive to provide dignity to others.
“It is important we recognise people as individuals just like ourselves, with basic needs and wants. Giving need not be a massive act, but if each one, reaches one, we can face tomorrow.” says Twitter Blanket Drive’s National Brand Ambassador and Johannesburg host, Wenchy – Social Media Collaborator and Blogger.
