Looking forward to this awesome event with Glenelly winemaker Luke O’Cuinneagain, who will be presenting some of the wine estate’s premier wines at an intimate wine and food pairing dinner, organised by Wine Menu, to be held at Melville’s La Luna restaurant on Thursday, February 23.
Included in the tasting will be the estate’s flagship wine – called Lady May, it is an award-winning Bordeaux-inspired wine, bottled in 2011, and gives a definitive introduction to Glenelly’s terroir.
Other Glenelly wines to be poured on the evening include the Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2014 and the Glass Collection Unwooded Chardonnay 2016, Syrah 2014 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2014. They have all been recently released with new labels and packaging.
The chef-owners of La Luna, Klaus Beckmann and Lindy Pretorius, have devised a special four-course meal to complement the Glenelly wines, the cost of which is R500 per person.
Beckmann has travelled the world from Berlin to Johannesburg via Paris, Basel, Cape Town, Kiev, Bucharest, Shanghai and Osaka working for InterContinental, Orient Express, Sofitel and private restaurants. Before opening La Luna, Beckmann worked at The Westcliff. He currently also heads up the Junior South African National Culinary Team. Pretorius is one of the country’s most acclaimed pastry chefs who worked in the two Michelin star Connaught London before returning to South Africa.
Says organiser Corlien Morris from Wine Menu: “We carefully choose some of South Africa’s best estates to show at our wine dinners. We are delighted to be showcasing Glenelly’s three tiers of wine – the Glass Collection range, single varietal wines with a great expression of the terroir and vintage; chardonnay from the Estate Reserve and Lady May, named in honour of Glenelly’s Grande Dame which comes predominantly from a single vineyard.”
