I love good food – and even more I enjoy being pleasantly surprised with great meals at great prices. Enter stage left – Metro Restaurant in Bryanston.
I have often driven past it, located at The Grosvenor Crossing shopping centre – it is situated where the old Rhapsody’s used to be, but I have never been inside since it’s opening about 6 months ago.
Joining a group of fellow food lovers for a special Christmas Eve meet up – I was delighted to find that the interior was beautifully decorated in earthy and classy browns, golds with a splash of red. The smoking lounge is beautifully appointed with plush loungers and high back chairs, leather couches and glass coffee tables.
The main restaurant itself, which also features an upstairs mezzanine level is well appointed, brick work, silver and leather all pull together well to create a high end feel.
They also offer live music regularly with a large stage area, and I see dancing ensuing on festive celebrations and parties etc.
The menu is vast, I battled greatly to select my main course, luckily the owner put together a great starter platter for us to share – and of course I dived straight in. Halloumi cheese with a sweet chilli sauce, delicious chicken livers, fries, pan fried chorizo and of course chunks of fresh home made bread to mop up all the sauces. Yum!
I finally selected a chicken breast with spinach and feta, and a side of onion rings for my mains, it was HUGE! I got dinner the next evening out of that one 🙂 The chicken was tender and the onion rings not too crispy – just the way I like them.
Others at the table ordered baby squid, a thai chicken curry and salmon with veggies – all of which received rave reviews.
As if we hadn’t eaten enough, next thing a dessert platter arrived, melt in the mouth Tiramisu, chocolate brownies – although I found them slightly dry, they would have gone very well with ice cream, and a delicious cheesecake with a berry coulis hit the spot more than adequately!
I loved the vibe here – the owner’s family were also having dinner there that evening, and the kids played around the table while the adults laughed, and even the staff got involved in the fun. It’s clear to see that the pride and attention to detail put in to everything from service, to decor, food variety and quality has been well planned, and is closely monitored to ensure a superb dining experience – each and every time.
Well worth a visit.
