Enjoyed a great meal here the other night – and adore the concept. Located in Sandton City on the split level above the Checkers Court, Nonna’s is all about great food, at great prices and served with ease and comfort, and the service is brilliant!

At Nonna’s you can order pastas, pizzas, antipasti and salads directly from the chefs at the individual stations in the wide stylish counter made from rustic wood. The chefs prepare all of the dishes to order in front of you guests to suit your taste or requirements.

I selected a Penne with Bolognaise sauce, which was delicious, and served in a huge big silver pan. Add in your extra garlic, chilli and tons of parmesan and you are good to go. Nom nom.

Nonna’s Italian Food Bar is a culinary theatre that aims to please each and every customer by customizing a dish and making it on the spot. Favourite dishes can be created, and then individually refined to how your own Nonna (or granny) used to make it for you.

Guests get to see how the pasta is made fresh each day in the glassed-in culinary laboratory in the end of each Nonna’s Italian Food Bar. The pizza dough, sauces and dressings, are all prepared in-house and are guaranteed to be made of the finest ingredients. Raw, unprocessed, organic, healthy and fresh is what they are all about.

Thanks to the smart-card payment system, customers can swipe for a variety of products from the different counters and only pay at the end. This was created to give diners a feeling of comfort and relaxation while they eat – and I have only ever seen this concept once before at a restaurant in Green Point in Cape Town, many moons ago.

Nonna’s Italian Food bar is the perfect setting for a quick lunch, an afternoon break, a healthy meal or a pleasant dinner with friends or family, and caters perfectly to the many offices in and around Sandton.
