Local is indeed lekker and South African actor Sean Cameron Michael, who has been making waves in the US with roles in Black Sails, Of Kings and Prophets (on M-Net last month) will soon to be releasing the series Shooter, with Ryan Phillipe and Omar Epps.

South African born, Sean Cameron Michael started acting professionally at the age of twelve in musical theatre. With over thirty productions under his belt, highlights include the Vita Award winning, On the Open Road and recently as Father Huddleston in the Naledi award-winning musical-opera, The Mandela Trilogy.

He became a household name in his home country as a TV presenter on SABC’s Teleschool, as well as playing the recurring role of Brett in the popular soap opera, Egoli and the leading role of Miles Stuart in the South African version of the UK cult drama This Life.

In 2006 Michael played Fergus Buchan in director Regardt van den Bergh’s multi-award winning feature film Faith Like Potatoes. This was followed by Mnet’s dramatic mini-series, Ella Blue, for Oscar-nominated director Darrell James Roodt.

With a career spanning over thirty years, Michael has performed numerous leading and supporting roles in television and film productions for endless distinguished international companies, such as Universal, HBO, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros, BBC Films, NBC, Animal Planet, History, Fox, CBS, ABC and Imagine Entertainment.

He has worked with some of the top actors, directors and producers in the world today, including Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan, William Hurt and Michael Bay. He has performed in over 80 television series, shorts, music videos and feature films.

More recently he worked opposite Games of Thrones’ Charles Dance in the Emmy-nominated Strike Back series, as well as Oscar winner William Hurt in BBC Films’ Royal Television Society’s award-winning The Challenger Disaster. In 2013 he secured the series regular role of Richard Guthrie in the hit pirate adventure series Black Sails for Starz Entertainment and Platinum Dunes. Season 1 garnered 4 Emmy nominations and 2 wins, with Michael being considered for a 2014 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He returned in season 2 which premiered in over 175 countries and was once again considered for an Emmy, as well as a SAG Award.

In 2016 Michael was seen playing supporting roles in feature films Dis Koue Kos Skat, Double Echo and American Girl: Lea to the Rescue, and also his first lead role in the indie feature, Last Broken Darkness, for director Christopher-Lee Dos Santos (releasing 2017).

On DSTV he was seen recently guest starring on CBS’s Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Scorpion and Of Kings And Prophets (ABC).  He will next been seen playing the recurring role of Russian diplomat Grigory Krukov in the USA Networks’ Shooter, opposite Ryan Phillippe (15 Nov 2016) and as Old Man Heart in Syfy/Universal’s Blood Drive (2017) currently shooting in Cape Town.
