The newly released super premium wine, The Divas, was named as one of the three “most exciting white wines of the 21st century” and recently showcased at the Wine Spectator’s New York Wine Experience. Now South Africans will get to taste it at four exclusive masterclasses to be held at the DeMorgenzon estate in December.
Leading US wine critic Matt Kramer chose the DeMorgenzon The Divas as one of his best wines, and presented it at the Wine Experience saying: “South African Chenin Blanc will change the world’s opinion of Chenin Blanc. At De Morgenzon, in the Stellenbosch region, the proprietors play baroque music 24/7 in the vineyards believing it helps the vines’ development. The outcome is a rich, textured Stellenbosch Chenin, The Divas 2013.”
The DeMorgenzon Celebration of Chenin Blanc takes place at the estate twice daily on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11, at 10h00 and 14h00. The masterclass tasting will be led by DeMorgenzon owner Wendy Appelbaum and cellarmaster Carl van der Merwe and includes 11 vintages from 2005 to 2015 of DeMorgenzon’s Reserve Chenin Blancs as well as the acclaimed The Divas.
These four exclusive events include a tour of the winery, a complimentary tasting of all DeMorgenzon’s wines and a selection of local delicacies. Limited releases of special vinoteque wines will be available for purchase on the day.
The 2015 DeMorgenzon Reserve Chenin Blanc was recently selected as the best Chenin Blanc and Trophy Winner at the 2016 International Wine and Spirits Competition. It is a hat-trick for this lauded wine which this year also took gold medals at both the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge. The Divas is available from a few selected outlets in the US at $100 per bottle and exclusively from the DeMorgenzon tasting room at R 1 000.
DeMorgenzon Estate was purchased by Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum in 2003 and immediately made an impact when its maiden release Chenin Blanc 2005 was recognised with a 5 Star rating by the 2007 Platter South African Wine Guide.
Tickets for the DeMorgenzon Celebration of Chenin Blanc cost R750 and can be booked by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 021 881 3030.
