A spectacular evening was enjoyed with former MasterChef South Africa contestant and culinary craftsman, Ozzy Osman, as he launched Ozzy’s Kitchen, a casual fine-dining halaal eatery located at international fashion house and experimental hub, BLU, in the heart of Wynberg.
Having trained in South Africa’s top kitchens – including the prestigious Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town and The Saxon under world-renowned chef, David Higgs – Ozzy brings unique perspectives to fine dining and believes wholeheartedly in the value of ‘honest’ cooking, spiced up with his signature flair for the outlandish.
“Everyone will find something they love here, from the adventurous eater to the person who wants to experience familiar flavours and dishes that taste like home,” he says. “My food is about honesty, and each menu has been designed with every type of palate in mind and contains only the finest locally-sourced ingredients.
“Expect to see new cooking and food preparation techniques, gorgeous plating and a modernist take on classic cuisine. Essentially, this is me on a plate.”
A refreshingly simple daytime café menu is available on weekdays and features wholesome and delicious light meals at affordable prices. The fine dining menus are reserved for weekends when guests can experience Ozzy’s eclectic creations while taking in the casual and friendly atmosphere. A banqueting menu will also be available for corporate events and special functions.
At the launch we were treated to variety of canape’s, hot and cold that were simply mouth watering! Favorites of the evening were definitely the Beetroot and Goats Cheese Terrine, and the Corn and Basil Soup, as well as the beautifully plated Oxtail Choux Buns and the Minted Chilli Pea Parcels.
Ozzy’s Kitchen was born when Ozzy realised that he and BLU Managing Director, Reza Motani, shared a vision of a space in which self-expression, diversity and unconventional ideas could flourish. The result is a ‘destination’ eatery that offers an all-round lifestyle experience.
“I see BLU growing into a fun, contemporary and experimental space where people would be happy to come and spend some time doing more than just shopping for clothes,” says Reza. BLU is onsidered a frontrunner in the revitalisation of this district, and boasts a spectacular roof top venue, complete with breathtaking views of the Sandton skyline, and secure off street parking.
While a fine-dining restaurant and trendy hangout-spot is a first for the bustling Sandton suburb of Wynberg, Reza and Ozzy believe that this adds to the appeal of the restaurant’s ambience, giving it an unassuming, informal feel. Wynberg is also an up-and-coming urban district inspired by the success of the rejuvenations of Braamfontein and the Maboneng Precinct, and stands to benefit from this development.
Ozzy’s Kitchen is located at 55 Andries Street in Wynberg, Sandton, and is open Mondays to Fridays during the day, and on Saturdays to Sundays for casual fine dining from morning until late.
