As if one wasn’t enough (I mean, is it ever?) I was treated to two opening nights last week, and throughly enjoyed both!
Rock Royalty opened at Rivonia Barnyard on Friday and will be running until 6th March 2016. Barnyard is always fun for young and old alike and this show is no different, featuring some very powerful voices, well thought out sets, musical talent and costume changes so swift they leave your head spinning.
Rock Royalty covers music from the last fifty years, songs that became iconic and will continue to be played for generations to come. Be it Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Alice Cooper or Meat Loaf that float your boat. or even Chuck Berry or James Brown – you will most likely be able to sing along to most of the tunes – and this is why we love Barnyard.
The show follows a rather nerdy and shy young man named Rocky along his journey through the ages of music, in his quest to become “cool” – and he sings pretty well, to boot.
The 10 piece cast features inspired singers, passionate guitarists, a nimble fingered piano player and a drummer on fire. The singers voices are powerful, and at times sound almost like the legends whose songs they are belting out.
Barnyard is always a great family entertainment activity, with a full bar, great restaurant on site, or you can even bring your own food or picnic basket, and don’t forget to grab some fun props at the shop, just to help you get in to the mood 😉
Feel free to come and go during the show, dance around, or get your lighter out for some of the more classic ballads – getting involved and cheering on the cast is always appreciated
The Barnyard is also open to assisting fund raising initiatives, as well as hiring out the venue for corporate events – contact them for more details on 087 236 3088 or visit www.barnyardtheatre.co.za
