I love a good Thai meal, classy tablecloths and napkins, good service and generally just eating out, to be honest. Erawan in Bedfordview, just off the van Buuren offramp, did all of the above for me on Wednesday evening – which makes me a very happy foodie indeed!
The restaurant was not too full, which I prefer to be honest, and our table appointed with the most sparkling clean white tablecloths and napkins I have ever seen in my life. The serviettes were fashioned in to rather funky shapes, that my friend pointed out “Look like hedgehogs” A-plus for sparing us from the usual popes mitre serviette fold!
The service was prompt and efficient, our waitron, Busarin, beautifully appointed in green, served us efficiently and offered great suggestions on what dishes to select.
I was starving after a long day of rushing around, and the prawn crackers with dipping sauce collection, could not have landed on our table fast enough, whilst we ordered our starters.
We started off with Dim Sum – Ka Num Jeeb Goong to be exact, delicious steamed dumplings filled with prawns and water chestnuts, and a delicious dipping sauce, and a portion of spicy salmon California rolls to share.
Main course followed, I selected a stir fry egg noodles and veg dish, with tofu, called Ba Me Prik Phao (which after a glass of wine admittedly had us in hysterics), and my friend ordered the crispy duck – which was sumptous. My only disappointment was that the tofu was cold in my dish, it had obviously been pre prepared earlier and was slightly chewy, but as a whole I could not fault the dish at all.
We rounded off our evening with chocolate spring rolls and ice-cream to share, we were so full we couldn’t even think of managing two desserts. I cannot say enough about this place – but don’t take my word for it – give them a try for yourself!
Booking is encouraged as on weekends the restaurant does get highly popular – contact Erawan Thai Bedfordview in Village View Centre on 011 450 2000.
