Heard of Toruka Wines? No? Well neither had I until recently. This brand new events venture derives its name from the Swahili word Toroka, which means escape, and that’s exactly what three young friends are trying to bring to the hectic rush and bustle of Joburgs lifestyle
Mosima Thema, Carmen Benttley and Andiswa Mapheleba hail from Stellenbosch University in the Western Cape and are all madly, passionately head over heels in love with the sumptuous culture and history of the Cape Winelands.
The initiative aims to bring more knowledge about the wine making processes and way that wines are developed and made to the consumer in Johannesburg, which actually has one of the biggest wine drinking markets in South Africa, although many of them have never experienced the wine making process, and aim to not only educate, but also provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy good wine, goods food and great company.
The tasting launch will take place on the 27th June 2015 at 18:30 and is hosted by the wellknown Cedarwoods of Sandton. The evening will see the audience sampling six South African wines from different companies. Wine will be the main medium of pleasure and entertainment.
Presenters for the evening will be Andiswa Mapheleba (Bsc Viticulture, University Stellenbosch) and Sandile Mkhwanazi who is a well known Wineland SA journalist.
